Depuis le mois de novembre 2007, le voisin construit 2 bâtiments juste en face de mon appartement. Je travaille à distance et depuis chez moi. ainsi depuis 8h du matin jusque 12h30 et de 13 à 18h, c'est avec un concert de pelleteuse de marteau piqueur et de marteau sur du métal que je travaillais.

After some weeks, I'm finally at my new flat ! No more in France but in Switzerland... Country of the Gruyère cheese and swiss chocolate. But this is not the point today. I'm planning to build a "multimedia corner" in my living room. Many questions are arriving in my little head, and honeslty I don't know yet exactly what to choose.

First : TV.

Depuis que je connais les Macintoshs d'Apple, depuis le System 1, le système d'exploitation a toujours eu une particularité qui était faite pour différencier l'interface aux autres de la conccurence, mais aussi pour défier l'utilisation de la mémoire. A l'époque la mémoire vive (RAM) coutait chère et la régle évidente était d'en utiliser le moins possible. Aujourd'hui on ne sait plus faire un systeme qui tiens dans 64 Ko de RAM....

Je n'ai pas posté depuis un bon moment. Je voyage assez souvent entre la Suisse et la France et cele ralenti ma productivité  ;)

Donc que s'est-il passé depuis : Décembre 2007, j'ai acheté un Macbook à Lausanne. Enfin :)

Here's an update of my Powermac G3. today it's about the apps.

Yesterday, I decided to work the whole day using the Mac. Ok, this was primarily, for website update (My current job is to configure a Drupal site). After that day, the power mac is slow, but wait, for web browsing, emailing and chatting, it's ok.

I also look at some tiny Apps, you could run on Panther. Here is the complete list of installed Mac Apps :

Guess, what, a friend of mine "found" a dying Apple iMac G3, somewhere to be thrown in any bin. He got it back home, and just gave me for some days, I could try to look at it and update it. This Mac is for his 11 years old daughter.

After a quick tour of the beast, it's a "Bondi blue" iMac G3. Here are some characteristics of it :

My 4G iPod is beging to die. It's about 2 1/2 years old, and the battery seems to shorten everytime I'm synchronizing and recharging it. I used to listen almost 4 hours of ipod everyday at work (I'm subscribed to a lot od podcasts). Today, the battery last for 4 hours of continous play or less and is even discharging while switched off. The battery can't keep the charge any more and after 2 days of not being switched on, the battery is almost empty.

Sooo ! I'm planning to buy a new ipod. Certainly a iPod nano, the red one will be my choice.

For now 2 weeks, I'm switching on regularly the powermac to see if everythin is running fine. I start iPhoto and add lots of photos, add lots of music into itunes library, and yes it seems to go well :)

Last monday (12th), I was giving one more chance (I'm really too good) to my 2 PC133 RAM (128 and 256 MB). I really find that 448 MB of RAM is not enough to run Panther smoothly, and adding 384 MB of RAM couldn't be that bad, even if my experience showed my that these RAM didn't work.

(note to myself : I really need to build simpler sentences).

Okay... I spend the last days, since my ladt post to install, and install and reinstall the Power Mac G3. but this time I decided to think a little more of what should be really changed. The previous day were the place for lots of tries to discover and find out the possible part which may stick... The result is pretty simple actually :
- either a RAM problem,
- or a hard disk issue.

Last Sunday, I get a copy of Mac OS X.3 (Panther) on CD, from a friend, to test if this version could be installed on the Power Mac. As, I didn't success to install Mac OS X.4 (Tiger) on it, may be a previous version could help. So during the last 3 days I tried to install, and install, and install, and even install the CDs... but nothing helped out. I always got the same error at the end of the CD 1 installation : "There were errors during the installation".
